Interdisciplinary Project
This year
for the interdisciplinary project they made attendance mandatory. Last year attendance
was optional but this year everyone had to go so I really had to study and know
everything I was doing. For my
interdisciplinary project my group and I researched and presented on Hemophilia.
Hemophilia is a rare blood disorder where the blood doesn't produce enough
clotting proteins so if someone gets a cut they will bleed for a longer time or
won’t stop bleeding which can lead to major blood loss or death. We all decided
to split the work and have each of us
study about one aspect about it so if anyone asked questions we would be able
to answer. That way we wouldn't have to know everything about hemophilia. I was
in charge of learning about treatment and cures for hemophilia. I had to learn
if there was a cure (there isn't) and the treatments options which included the
cost of the treatments, what the treatment does, and how they work. The treatment
that I focused on most was replacement therapy which is a injection of the clotting
proteins to give the person the clotting proteins they can’t produce themselves. Then we all made the power point and practiced presenting and when we presented in front of the panel we all felt nervous but we did a pretty good job.
