Final Part: 1
1. Some things I liked about the class was the free time and life planning goals because free time is free time and the life planning goals helped me focus on what I wanted to do in life.
2. One thing I did not like about the class was that we did the same thing every day and even if practice makes perfect it gets boring after a while.
3. My recommendation for improving the class would be to do more things or to do different things so that it’s not the same all the time.
4. I feel that I could have done better in the class because even though I did most things there are areas where I could have definitely improved more like in typing and keeping my blog updated.
5.I started reading my life planning goals every day for two minutes but towards the end of the year I stopped reading them every day and started to do it only every other day.
6. I am committed to being a CTR person because being a CTR person will get you farther in life and it will always be for the better.

7. I will always remember to be a CTR person because of this class and will always remember choose the right.

The Ultimate Choice
Of all choices you will ever make, one choice supersedes all others- the ultimate choice. This one choice will help you always make correct decisions. This one choice, The Ultimate Choice, is your keystone to being the best student and person you can possibly be. This one choice will forever affect you for good more than any other choice. The ultimate choice is:
To be a CTR Person – To always CHOOSE THE RIGHT!!!

Reflection: I think that this statement is true because if you choose the right all the time then you will have a good life but if you make bad choices you will have bad consequences. If is simple advice but the person has to put in the effort to always choose the right.

Student Success Statement

If there is beauty in character,
There will be harmony in the home.
If there is harmony in the home,
There will be order in the nation.
If there is order in the nation,
There will be peace in the world.
Conclusion:
If there is beauty in character,
there will be peace in the world.
Chinese Proverb

This means that the simple things add up and contribute to the overall condition of the big thing. If the small unit of the home is peaceful then the next level will be peaceful and overall everything will be peaceful. I think that this is true and if everyone did the right thing the world would be better.

The Six Pillars of Character

The six pillars of character are
Trustworthiness
Respect
Responsibility
Fairness
Caring
and citizenship.

-Trustworthiness is by choosing the right and being able to be trusted because people know you don’t do bad things. You don’t steal or lie so people can trust you.

-Respect is when someone says that something is theirs and they don’t want anyone to touch it respect there decision and don’t touch it.

- Responsibility is being able to take care of a pet or doing all that is expected of you.

-Fairness is not treating others unequally. If someone does something unfair you have to be able to call them out and make a fair and unbiased decision.

-Caring is being able to be compassionate and help others if they need it and show gratitude when others help you.

-Citizenship is being a team player and doing what’s right and being a good part of your community to make it a better place.

Reflection: I think that if everyone followed the six pillars of character the world would be better and because you should be the change you want to see in the world I will always do what the six pillars of character say.

Student Success Story
“I would prefer even to fail with honor than by cheating.”
Sophocles

Reflection: I think this is true because winning fairly is more important than winning unfairly because then it might as well be a loss. An example is that instead of winning the race by cutting corners and saying you ran the whole thing it’s better to try and if you don’t win you got the experience and practice for next time.
Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a holiday celebrated in the United States to remember all those who have died in service in the armed forces. It is supposed to be a day to remember all the men and woman who have died in service and is not the same thing as Veterans Day which is about honoring living veterans. It is celebrated ion the last Monday of May ever year and it was declared an official holiday by Congress in 1971. Ways people usually celebrate is by visiting the graves of people who have died in service, displaying the American Flag, and wearing rod poppies which has become a traditional flower that shows support. On interesting thing is that people don’t agree on where memorial day celebrations originated from but although some say it started in the North after Lincolns assassination most say it was during the civil w3ar where both sides wanted to honor their dead.

             Dan Dierdorf

Reflection: I think that this is saying that if we have good goals and we pursue them then our hard work will pay off. If we work hard at the goals we set we can accomplish our goals.

“The most important thing you will ever have is good values.”

Dennis Prager

Reflection: I think that this statement is saying that it does not matter what you have or own but how you behave and what you do.I think that sometimes feelings do come into conflict with values but I think that although morals are more important feelings sometimes that is untrue. Sometimes people have values or morals that are wrong and feelings that are right. An example is slavery and although back then slavery was not seen as bad and it was the right thing to do to turn in slaves who ran away but in this case its more important to follow your feelings that slavery is wrong.

Dare to stand alone.”

Thomas S. Monson

Reflection: What Thomas S. Monson is saying is that it better to stand-alone doing the right thing than to stand with others that are doing the wrong thing. Like JamesOn Curry who lost all his records because he joined people who were doing drugs instead of daring to stand alone.

Forgiveness

In the story a man named Eric Smallridge was a prisoner convicted of manslaughter because he was drinking drunk and his passengers Megan and Lisa were killed. He was convicted to serve 22 years and then after a couple of years his sentenced was lowered to 11 years because the mother of one of the victims asked that his sentenced be reduced. The victim’s mother Renee said that it was not going to help staying mad and that the only way to feel better would be to forgive him. So she forgave him and after that they both go around and talk about the dangers of driving drunk at high schools. Even after he was convicted he still goes around talking of the dangers of drinking and driving.

Sportsmanship

The story was about a girl who played for the Western Oregon softball team who was shown a big act of sportsmanship by the other team. Sara had never hit a home run in her time playing and on the game versus Central Washington she hit her first home run ever. Then as everyone ran to home plate they saw Sara on the floor by first base. She had run to first base and tore her right knee and she couldn’t run or even walk to home plate. Her team members couldn’t help her or it wouldn’t count but then girls from the opposing team helped her because the rules said nothing about the other team helping. So two members of the opposing team carried her around the field and onto home plate where Sara had just officially hit her first homerun.

“Goodness is the only investment that never fails.”
Henry David Thoreau

Reflection: I think that this is saying that the only thing that we can invest in and get what we put in and more is goodness. An example could be not cheating on something because you invested in not cheating now you will know more than if you had cheated and that is worth a lot more.

Tallest Recorded Man Ever
The tallest man in medical history who was documented and certified was Robert Pershing Wadlow who was born in Illinois in the USA on 22 February 1918. When he last measured on June 27, 1940 he was 2.72 m (8 ft 11.1in) tall. Wadlow died 15 July 1940 in a hotel in Michigan because of a blister on his right ankle caused by a brace which had been improperly fitted.  He is the tallest man ever because no one beaten his height record yet with the tallest man living today being only 8 ft, 3 in tall.

Reflection:
-I am interested in this world record because I cannot even build a small pyramid with cards so I think that this one is really incredible.
- I would want to break a world record but I would want to break one that  not bad like most tattoos but another one like tallest card stack or something cool that’s difficult.

“My basic principle is that you don’t make decisions because there easy; you don’t make t hem because they are cheap; you don’t make them because they’re popular: you make them because there right.”
Theodore Hesburgh (Former president of Notre Dame)

Reflection: I think that this means that we have to make the right decisions not because of anything else other than they are right. We have to do what’s right because it’s right. An example would be returning something valuable to someone if they lose it without hoping they will pay for your good deed.

“It is our duty to concentrate to make popular that which is sound and good, and unpopular that which is unsound”(not good)
Joseph Smith
Reflection” I think that this is true because this means that we should help people realize that some things are bad and somethings are good. An example would be if telling people smoking is bad and telling them that it is better to do something better like volunteering and helping others. Instead of glamorizing smoking and drugs glamorize helping others.

Global Opportunities: English Teacher

Japan, Korea, the United Arab Emirates, and China are some of the few counties that are in need English teachers. All these countries are developed or developing countries that have one thing in common; heir market. Most people in these countries are taught English as a second language because most people agree the English is the language of Global Business.  In all these countries they are hiring native English teachers to teach English as a send or third language so that they may participate in world affairs. In all these countries people are paid good money and people get to live there(In the United Arab Emirates they provide free housing to English teachers and there salary is tax free) until they are no longer needed. It also provides the teacher to learn about different cultures and even learn another language. Although these salaries won't break the bank the pay can go up to $3000 USD a month and with the low cost of living abroad adds up to quite a bit of extra money.

News Story

In Michigan in Olivet Middle school the football team the Olivet Eagles decided to help make Keith’s day. Keith is a kid with a learning disability but still is friends with the football team. The football team decided that they would help Keith make a touchdown and score for the first time in his life. Although the team had to take dives to allow Keith to score they said it was worth it.  One of the boys involved Nick said they did it  "Because we really wanted to prove that he was part of our team and he meant a lot to us.” All the boys said they all wanted to do this and planned it out without the coach and did it because he was special to them.  Keith’s parents were also very surprised when they saw what the football team had done all that to let their son score a touchdown. On of the boys Justice said that he learned a lot from this experience because "I kind of went from being somebody who mostly cared about myself and my friends to caring about everyone and trying to make everyone's day and everyone's life.”

“They’re only truly great who are truly good. “
George Chapman

Reflection: I think that this means that in order to be great you have to act well. An example is you’re not going to a famous athlete is you do drugs and do bad things. These are available to medical students and require the volunteer to be over 16 and submit an application be accepted

“Many think that the short term gain will be pain, but it isn’t. In addition, using steroids is cheating, and there is nothing worse in sports than a teacher. Don’t do it.”
George Mitchell

Reflection: I think that this quote is saying that it’s important to always play fairly. He is saying that in sports there is nothing like a cheater and that people should just play fairly because it makes the sport more enjoyable if the game is even. If someone is using steroids in a basketball game its not fair and it takes the other teams chances of winning.

“I won’t cheat"

Dale Murphy

Reflection: What his trying to say is that we shouldn’t cheat in anything in life, we should always choice what’s right for us .Cheating can make you a winner but not a honest winner which is the only type of winner worth being. Its saying that if you could win but have to cheat you should just lose. It means to commit yourself to be honest and to not cheat. If you have a chance to cheat in class you won't.
