Current Event

Mount Ontake in central Japan erupted shortly before noon local time Saturday, spewing large white plumes of gas and ash high into the sky and blanketing the surrounding area in ash. The bodies of at least 31 people believed to be dead have reportedly been discovered near the summit of an erupting volcano in Japan. The search for survivors started almost immediately but the search for victims was abandoned on Monday because of fears of toxic gases. Japan is one of the world's most seismically active nations so it the fact that they didn’t get any signs before the eruption so they didn’t evacuate people until it exploded.  Also, the eruption appears to have resulted from a steam-driven explosion of a kind that is especially hard to forecast, said Toshitsugu Fujii, a volcano expert.

“You have brains in your head,
You have feet in your shoes;
You can steer yourself in
any direction you choose.
You’re on your own,
And you know what you know.
You are the guy who’ll decide where to go.”

Reggie Bush

The NCAA found that football star Reggie Bush, the 2005 Heisman Trophy winner was ineligible to play the season he won the award. He also had multiple violations by accepting cash,gifts, and other benefits while playing for the Trojans. The outcome for this scandal was that the USC program was ordered by the NCAA to remove all references to Bush from the record. Reggie Bush is now the only person in the Heisman award history to loose the trophy. 9/11

The attack started on 9/11/2001 when terrorists hijacked 4 planes. Two of the planes crashed to the twin towers and the other two went to different places. One crashed into the pentagon and the other was targeted to Washington DC but  the plane was overtaken by the passengers and then crashed in Virginia. The attacks on that day were planned by members of Al- Qaeda and caused a total of 3,000 deaths and caused at least $10 billion in property and infrastructure damage.

The United States responded to the attacks by declaring a war on terror and by invading Afghanistan to depose the Taliban who were harboring Al-Qaeda. The leader of the attack Osama bin Laden was killed on May 2, 2011
