Student Success Statement

"Our very business in life is not to get ahead of others... but to get ahead                of ourselves"

                                                  Thomas S. Monson

Reflection: This is saying that we must not worry about what everyone else can do but worry               about ourselves and try constantly to improve what we can do.

Allopathic Physician

Duties and Responsibilities: Allopathic physicians diagnose and treat conditions that affect every area of the body. Medical doctors also perform check-ups to screen for any developing medical conditions and diseases and to prevent illness.

Education:  Doctors typically receive a four-year bachelor's degree and then attend medical school for four more years. Allopathic physicians must pass state medical licensing exams and usually are required to pass a second exam at the end of their residency to gain certification in their field of specialty.

Salary: $150,000 - $ 300,000

Reflection: I don't think that this job is for me because this job requires about eight years of education and then more years just to start practicing independently. I think that this job seems to have too much education requirements.

Og Mandino

                                              Student Success Statement
“True wealth is of the heart, not of the purse”
                                               Og Mandino

I think that what he is saying that whatever money we have cannot buy our happiness, I think that this is saying that when we are happy even if it’s when we are broke it is worth more than being unhappy and wealthy.

Allergist/ Immunologist

Duties and Responsibilities:  A physician specially trained to diagnose, treat and manage allergies, asthma and immunologic disorders including primary immunodeficiency disorders. They also find the cause of allergic irritants that trigger immune response in the body.

Education: Allergists/immunologists must complete 4 years of premedical education at a college or university, followed by at least 4 years of medical school getting a doctor of medicine or doctor of osteopathy degree.

Reflection:

I think that I don’t want to be an allergist/ immunologist because it seems that they deal with things that need lots of attention and eye for details that I do not have. I don’t think I would be able to tell the difference between a cold and asthma.

“Real wealth is not so much what we have as what we are.”

                                                          Sterling W. Still

          Reflection:
This quote is saying that we all are not worth how much money we have or how many                        material possessions we have but how we act and how we view ourselves

Acupuncture

Acupuncture

Duties and Responsibilities:
Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific acupuncture points along the skin of the body involving thin needles. Traditional acupuncture involves needle insertion into the skin. It is a form of complementary and alternative medicine and a key component of traditional Chinese medicine .According to TCM, stimulating specific acupuncture points corrects imbalances in the flow of qi through channels known as meridians. Acupuncture aims to treat a range of conditions, though is most commonly used for pain relief.
Salary:
 $49,844 annually
Education:
Acupuncturists must attend special schools. In 2002, there were 38 programs fully accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine throughout the United States. Most master's degree programs take three or four years to complete and include both study and clinical experience.

Reflection:
I don’t think I would want to be an acupuncturist because I cannot really keep my hand still enough for anything like this. I also wouldn't want to become one because  if I made a mistake I would probably be sued.

Acupressure

Acupressure

Duties and Responsibilities: Is a technique similar in principle to Acupuncture. It is based on the concept of life energy which flows through "meridians" in the body. In treatment pressure is applied to acupuncture points to unblock these meridians. Pressure may be applied by hand, by elbow, or with various devices but not with needles like in acupuncture.

Education: The regulation for acupressure professionals varies from state to state. But acupressure is recognized as a type of massage, which requires practitioners to meet the requirements of licensed massage therapists in order to practice professionally. So a degree in massage or some postsecondary education.

Salary: The average wage is $81,830 a year

Reflection:
I don’t think I would want to be a acupressure because I heard its dangerous like if you hit the wrong place you can break there back so I think I would not want to do something with a chance of me hurting someone’s back and they sue me.

First Week

                                                      First Week

I think that my first week back in school has been very pleasant. I think that my biggest
problem in coming back to school would be my schedule. Over the break I didn't do anything
during the day but play video games until midnight. Another thing is I didn't really study
academically over the summer so I sometimes feel unsure of what some things mean and are. I
think that’s the reason I had trouble  following along the first two days of coming
back to school.
After I got past the sleep issue and was able to start focusing again I realized all my
classes would be easy if I just studied and tried to get good grades. It has been a good year so
far because this year I think I can learn new things in all my classes

Student Success Statement 2

                                                          Student Success Statement
“Education is the latchkey to success in life”
                                                            Gordon B. Hinckley
Think that this quote is saying that in order to be successful you must have an
education. This is saying that with an education you have a chance to succeed in
                         life.

Ophthalmologist

Ophthalmologist

Duties and responsibilities
Ophthalmologists are physicians who specialize in the treatment of eye disorder and diseases. They
treat vision problems and write prescriptions for both pharmaceutical and corrective eyeglass lenses.
When necessary, they perform surgery. Most Ophthalmologists are in private practice, however some
are employed by hospitals or clinics and others perform research.

Average Salary: $90,000- $150,000

Education Requirements:

Only physicians may study to become ophthalmologists. After completing medical school and an
internship, an ophthalmologist must then complete a three to five year residency in an approved
ophthalmology program. After completing their residency program they must pass an examination to be
certified.

Do you think you would like to be one? Why? Why not?
I don’t think I would want to be a ophthalmologist because I don’t think that if it came to it I would be
able to perform surgery on someone’s eye without messing up in fear that I would mess it up.
