Interdisciplinary Project

                        Interdisciplinary Project

This year for the interdisciplinary project they made attendance mandatory. Last year attendance was optional but this year everyone had to go so I really had to study and know everything I was doing.  For my interdisciplinary project my group and I researched and presented on Hemophilia. Hemophilia is a rare blood disorder where the blood doesn't produce enough clotting proteins so if someone gets a cut they will bleed for a longer time or won’t stop bleeding which can lead to major blood loss or death. We all decided to  split the work and have each of us study about one aspect about it so if anyone asked questions we would be able to answer. That way we wouldn't have to know everything about hemophilia. I was in charge of learning about treatment and cures for hemophilia. I had to learn if there was a cure (there isn't) and the treatments options which included the cost of the treatments, what the treatment does, and how they work. The treatment that I focused on most was replacement therapy which is a injection of the clotting proteins to give the person the clotting proteins they can’t produce themselves. Then we all made the power point and practiced presenting and when we presented in front of the panel we all felt nervous but  we did a pretty good job.

When I feel good,
I do good.
When I do bad,
I feel bad.”

Abraham Lincoln

Reflection: I think that this statement is trying to say that we all should feel proud of accomplishments but feel guilt when doing bad things. I think an example of feeling good when you do good is getting a good grade or winning something without cheating and feeling like you accomplished something and doing bad would be lying about doing something honestly when you actually cheated and stole the prize from someone who actually deserved the prize.

“Take responsibility for your own body, mind, and spirit, for your own physical, mental, and spiritual well-being.”
Mr. Haymore

Reflection: I think that it is important to take care of all aspects of yourself and not just the ones that we want to. An example of taking care of yourself physically is to not smoke or drink or do anything that will harm your body, and example of taking care of your mind is by never getting lazy and always stimulating your mind, and an example of taking care of your spirit is to do things that will make you happy like listening to music, reading, or anything that is brings you joy (that does harm your mind and body).

“We need the courage to start and continue what we should do, and the courage to stop what we shouldn't do.”
Richard L. Evans

Reflection: This quote is saying that we must make good decisions even if making them intimidates us. Its saying that we must choose to do the right thing and to stop doing what is bad even if doing so would affect others opinion of you.

Always Do Right

Reflection: In the story Patrick has the choice of listening to his parents or listen to what he wanted and he chose to do what he wanted. They warned him to wear shoes or he could hurt his feet but he did not listen and got stung by a scorpion and he was in pain for over two hours. This story shows how choosing to do the right thing is not a roadblock or limitation but can actually be to protect us from getting hurt. If Patrick had listened to his parents and followed the rules he wouldn’t have gotten stung by the scorpion.

                     “Always do right”
                                     Mark Twain

Reflection: I think that this statement means exactly what it is saying; always do right. It means that we must always do what is right, not just when it suits us.

When You Tell One Lie It Leads to Another
Paul Hatch

When you tell one lie, it leads to another
So you tell two lies to cover each other
Then you tell three lies and, Oh Brother,
You’re in trouble up to your ears!
So you tell four lies to try to protect you
Then you tell five lies so folks won’t suspect
You
Then you tell six lies and you’ll collect
A life filled with worries and fears
‘Cause you can’t remember how many lies
You’ve told
And half the things you say aren’t true
And sometime you’ll slip up, you’ll trip up
And then
Whatever will become of you?
So you lie and lie and without even trying
And each lie you tell will keep
Multiplying
‘Till the whole wide world will know
You’re lying
Then you’ll be
Suspected
Detected
Rejected
Neglected
Disliked
And you should!
When you lie, you’re closing the door
On everything good

1. Can people trust me to do what’s right?
Yes
2. Am I committed to doing my very best?
Yes
3. Do I treat people the way I want to be treated?
Yes
If the answers to these questions are YES, there is no way you can fail.

Lou Houltz
Reflection: I think that this statement is true because it’s saying that these are the ways to be successful. It’s not saying that wealth or fame is the way to be successful; its saying that being good is being successful.

“When you Tell One Lie, it leads to Another”
Paul Hatch

Reflection: I think that this quote is true because if you tell a lie you are going to have to cover up that lie with another and then cover that lie with another in a vicious cycle that doesn’t stop.

Physical Fitness

“Physical Fitness is not only one of the most important keys to a healthy body; it is the basis of dynamic and creative intellectual activity. The relationship between the soundness of the body and the mind is subtle and complex Much is not yet understood. But we do know what the Greeks knew: that intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong.”

                                               President John F. Kennedy

Reflection: I think that the quote is basically saying that in order to function at your highest capability you need to have a healthy body and mind. I think that this is true and it’s important to be healthy in your body as well as your mind.
